About the climb

Join us for a day trip to climb Breithorn from Zermatt (or Cervinia). The west peak of Breithorn is a great introduction to mountaineering and for those who are looking to do their first 4,000m peak.

Breithorn is one of the more accessible 4,000-meter peaks in the area, and is done as a day trip from Zermatt. You'll meet the guide in Zermatt, take the cable car to Klein Matterhorn, and then complete the ascent (around 300m vertical).

Reaching the top of Breithorn, you'll be rewarded with amazing views of the surrounding mountains. This climb is about enjoying the outdoors and challenging yourself safely accompanied by a certified mountain guide.

Breithorn Tour Details

Climb the normal route of Breithorn (4,164 meters above sea level) accompanied by an IFMGA-certified mountain guide. Breithorn is available to climb all year round. Below you'll find details about the tour.  

General

• Fitness level: Easy to moderate

• Number of people: 1-6 persons per guide

• Season: All year round. On skis or by foot

• Duration: 3-4 hours from Klein Matterhorn

• Guide fee: CHF 690 for 1-2 persons

• Additional persons: CHF 50

Times might differ depending on the time of the season.


• Summer: Meet the guide at 8.00am at Matterhorn Express station, in Zermatt

• Winter: Meet the guide at 8.30am at Matterhorn Express station, in Zermatt

• Cable car: to Klein Matterhorn station, 3883m. You start the climb here.

• Climb: The climb takes 3-4 hours, and you'll have some time at the top for pictures and rest.

How long does it take to climb the Breithorn?

Typically, the round-trip from Klein Matterhorn takes about 3 to 4 hours. Most climbs start early in the morning to benefit from stable weather and firm snow conditions.

What equipment do I need?

For the Breithorn, you will need: Harness, mountaineering boots, crampons, a pole, and warm clothes. A full list of equipment will be communicated by your guide. All equipment can be rented in Zermatt - we provide a discount for this.

Can bad weather cancel the climb?

Yes. Weather in the high Alps can be unpredictable. Your guide will assess conditions and either adjust the plan (for example, climbing a lower peak) or reschedule if necessary. Safety always comes first, and you will be in close communication with the guide for any changes that may take part.
